AWE recognises the unique role of Māori, and embraces the Treaty of Waitangi (Te Tiriti), NZ’s foundation document confirming Māori as tangata whenua, the first people of Aotearoa, New Zealand. It recognises that they have tino rangatiratanga (absolute authority or sovereignty) over their lands, resources, and taonga (treasured possessions) while embracing the three guiding principles of the Te Tiriti – partnership, participation and protection.

AWE recognises that women and others can face significant challenges in the workplace including discrimination, bullying, harassment, and more due to their gender, sexuality, race, identity, abilities and/or background. To help you navigate these and other workplace issues we’ve put together a list of Australian, New Zealand and Pacific organisations, resources and other information.
It has been great to see new members from across the Pacific sign up to the AWE Network Pacific Chapter. We are looking forward to connecting with you all and providing opportunities for you to connect and network with other AWE Pacific Chapter members and the network more broadly.
Freya is a Wellbeing Manager at Disaster Relief Australia and is an experienced Occupational Therapist with a passion for rehabilitation management, healthcare communication, coaching, and project organisation. She has cultivated a deep understanding of the mental and emotional aspects of emergency response and believes that this perspective is crucial in shaping policies and programs that support women in high-stress environments. Freya says she is eager to contribute to AWE’s growth and to collaborate with a network of inspiring women who are reshaping the sector’s landscape.
Jade Moorby is a Senior Consultant at the Yellow Company and has held a range of disaster and emergency management positions including with the Queensland Reconstruction Authority and the Queensland Health Disaster Management Unit. Jade holds a Bachelor of Emergency Management, and is pursuing further studies in psychology at Charles Sturt University to further compliment her work across the emergency management sector. Jade says she is honoured to join the AWE Committee, and is looking forward to working alongside like minded people who are passionate about supporting communities at risk of or who have been impacted by disaster events.
Zoee is a Manager in the National Security & Emergency Management Practice at KPMG Australia. She has worked on projects in these areas at State and Commonwealth level, specialising in stakeholder engagement, strategy and human centred design. Zoee is also a seasoned graphic facilitator and brings experience in organisation design and technology implementation. Zoee’s migrant family background includes experience of displacement following a disaster which has fostered her passion for bringing a human centred approach to disaster management. Her experience in male-dominated fields has shaped her motivation and passion to uplift and support women to succeed in their careers. Zoee is looking forward to boosting representation through the work of the AWE Network. Zoee is always open to a coffee or catch up with fellow AWE members!
Amy is a Response Manager at the Ministry for Primary Industries, leading and supporting biosecurity incursions and other significant events, such as the all-of-MPI Cyclone Gabrielle response. Previously she worked as a disaster management officer for the New Zealand Red Cross, planner and recovery specialist with FEMA, and an emergency management consultant in the United States. Amy believes that empowering people, cultivating meaningful partnerships, and promoting equity is essential to progress and achieving sustainable outcomes in the emergency management and disaster resilience sector.
