About the Scholarship

Person-Centred Emergency Preparedness (P-CEP) Scholarship

If you live in a rural or remote area and have a disability, or care for or support someone who does, you know that emergencies can bring added challenges, especially when services and support are further away.

Australasian Women in Emergencies Network (AWE), in partnership with the University of Sydney, is thrilled to offer three scholarships for the nationally recognised, award-winning Person-Centred Emergency Preparedness (P-CEP) Certificate Course.

The P-CEP Course is designed to help you build personalised, practical emergency plans that reflect your unique needs and circumstances and give you the confidence to facilitate preparedness in others. Whether you’re preparing for yourself or supporting your community, you’ll gain tools and confidence that can make a real difference when it matters most.

The P-CEP Course consists of 6 self-paced, online modules over a 5-week access period which allows flexibility for you to study in your own time.

This course is designed to help you:

• Prepare for emergencies that could affect you and/or the people you care for
• Work through the P-CEP process steps and apply its principles to create your own personalised plan
• Build the skills and confidence to facilitate emergency preparedness in others
• Build confidence and capability when unexpected events happen
• Learn at your own pace
• Connect with others and share experiences

All AWE members are eligible to apply.

Course details

Format: Online, self-paced – approx. 20 hours

Dates: Scholarship recipients can choose from several study periods in 2026. Please contact Courtney Jones at the University of Sydney for dates.

Eligibility and Application

To apply, you must:

• Be an AWE member (it is free to join, and you can join any time!)
• Live in a rural or remote area
• Have lived experience of disability OR be an informal carer of people with support needs
• Submit a short statement outlining your motivation for applying and how you will apply the course learning in your life or work
