AWE and University of Melbourne Foundations in Disaster Recovery Scholarship

The popular University of Melbourne Foundations in Disaster Recovery short course has been specifically designed for practitioners, volunteers and community members who are (or will be) working in post-disaster settings. The course focuses on supporting learners to deepen their understanding of disaster recovery and using evidence-based materials to support practice.

Learning outcomes include:

  • Understand key principles of disaster recovery
  • Increase confidence in accessing and using research evidence
  • Understand disaster impacts and their interconnected nature
  • Build a network of peers

Content is self-paced online learning, with one real time online meeting, one real time webinar and a one-day in-person workshop* (optional) in Melbourne. The workshop will be held on week 3 of the course. Attendance at this workshop is optional but is strongly encouraged for participants to get the most out of their learning experience. All AWE members are eligible to apply.

*Please note this Scholarship covers the cost of the workshop but does not cover travel and accommodation.

Selection Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be a member of the Australasian Women in Emergencies Network
  • Be available to attend the course on the dates advertised
  • Provide a statement about why they are applying
